The Scent of Rain and Lightning

When we noticed an author dedicated her book "With love and appreciation for libraries large and small", it was a given that at least one of us would have to read and review it.

Nancy Pickard's latest offering The Scent of Rain and Ligntning is the story of a Kansas family with secrets. Twenty two years ago, when Jody was just three, her father was murdered and her mother vanished. Her extended family closed it's protective arms around her and still do so in the present. But when the local trouble-maker convicted of the crime is released for a retrial, old rivalries and unspoken questions start to make their presence felt. Was everything as it seemed and did they convict the right man?

Strong characters against a wild rural backdrop with a fantastic flavour for the small town community, this story has a great pace and does keep you guessing to the end.
