Dr Stephen Barker, Lorraine Orman and Maria Gill entertained an audience of children and adults at Warkworth Library yesterday afternoon. They all talked about their books, where they get their ideas from and gave hints about what is coming up next for them.It was interesting to hear that they all work differently. Stephen fits his writing around his day job as one of our local GP's and has ideas for the sequel to "The Secret of Spirits Bay" plus several other books. He said that he created a lot of the story for Spirits Bay in his head when he used to run along Omaha Beach. Lorraine is now a full time resident at Omaha and writes two or three times a week, plus travels and does interviews with people to get ideas of things to include in her stories. She is currently working on a young adult novel set on the West Coast of the South Island. Maria writes non-fiction and does some writing every day, trying to work to a schedule. She has several books in the pipeline, including ones on Rangitoto and sea conservation.
Thanks to these three authors for giving their time to come in.
